Mary Catherine Stover was born in LaPorte county, Ind., May 15,1838.She was the second in a family of five children, and grew to womanhood in the same county where she was born, and on May 24th, 1855, she was united in marriage to Horace Bishop. The settled on a farm near the city of LaPorte where four children were born to them: Mrs. Hattie M. Webster of Albee, S.D., Mrs. Orpha M. Webster of Cresco, Nellie L. White of Cresco and Albert Bishop of Springville, N.Y. In 1866 Mr. and Mrs. Bishop moved to Westville, Ind., where they had the advantage of a good school. Three years later they started west and settled on some wild land four miles west of Cresco. In the spring of 1883 they moved to the town of Cresco which has been their home ever since. Mrs. Bishop was converted and joined the Methodist church at Door Village, Ind., in 1864. She was received into the local church in 1871 by Joseph Riddlington who was then pastor in charge. She leaves to mourn her death besides the children, her husband, a number of grandchildren and a host of friends.

The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church by Rev. Will Kirwin the pastor, and burial was made at Oaklawn cemetery.
