Services Friday for Leon Brown,94

Funeral services for Leon Brown,94, were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 12 at the Congregational Church in Cresco. The Rev. Allen Wiese officiated. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery with Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died January 8, 1990 at Evans Memorial Home.

Leon R. Brown was born May 2, 1895, on the home farm, the son of Fred and Minnie (Stockman) Brown. He received his education in the Winneshiek county schools and attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette.

Leon lived most of his life in Orleans township as a farmer. He served as secretary of the Winneshiek County Fair for 26 years; was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Showmen's League of America. He was also a member of the Winneshiek County Farm Bureau and the Cresco Congregational Church.

Leon was well-known for the "Brown Zoo" which he operated for many years on his farm. Proceeds from this went to the Winneshiek County Society for Crippled Children, an organization where he was an active member.

His only survivors are three nephews, Lyle and Jerry Brown of Cresco and Eugene Vaubel of Houston, Texas.

His parents, two sisters, Luella and Bina and a brother, Brayton preceded him in death.
