FUNERAL SATURDAY FOR MRS. JOSEPHINE BIRTWISTLE OF CRESCO

She came to Cresco as Young Girl.Ill Month Before Her Death Wednesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Birtwistle, age 77, who died Wednesday morning in Cresco, following a month's illness were held in Cresco Saturday morning.

The Rev. E.J. Supple, pastor, celebrated the requiem mass in the Assumption church, and burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery.

Josephine Gamel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gamel, was born August 29,1870, in Arlington, Minnesota. She came to Cresco when she was 19 years old.

Her marriage to William W. Birtwistle was performed in the Congregational church in Cresco by Elder Fall, September 6, 1890. Mr. and Mrs. Birtwistle were the parents of five children, two of whom died in infancy.

The couple lived for four years in Chicago and then moved back to Cresco, where Mr. Birtwistle was a carpenter. He died June 17, 1942 in Cresco.

Surviving are two sons, William Birtwistle of Cresco, and Leslie Birtwistle of Lakeville, Minnesota, and one daughter, Mrs. Ralph Davis of Cresco. There are also living two sisters, Mrs. A.V. Bishop of Springville, New York, and Mrs. Anna West of Los Angeles, California, and one brother, Ervin A. Gamel of Elmire, New York.
