Melvin Benson Funeral Conducted on Friday
Funeral services for Melvin Benson were held Friday at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Gary Lee officiating. Burial was at the Oak Lawn cemetery with the Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Military services were conducted by the American Legion.
He died Oct. 31, at the Cresco Hospital at the age of 79.
Melvin was born Nov. 27, 1893, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bent Benson of Cresco. He married Gertrude Ferkingstad on March 17, 1921, at the farm home of her parents. The couple had lived their entire lives in the Cresco area.
He was a veteran of World War I and a charter member of the American Legion. He was employed by the United Shippers in Cresco for 40 years, having retired as manager in March,1965.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and infant son; a sister, Annie; and four brothers, Kasper, Oliver, Bennie and Albert.
Mr. Benson is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Ted (Mildred) Peterson of Wolverton, Minn.; a son, Gordon of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Meyer of Cresco; and five grandchildren.
