Service held for Clifford Burgess

Funeral services for Clifford Burgess were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26 at the United Methodiat Church in Cresco. The Rev. Lewis Flanigan officiated. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Pall bearers were grandchildren: Brian, Dawn, Chad, Wendy, Kristy and Shelly Burgess, Debbie Gilson, Adam Bernick, Chasity Griffith, Cathy Meinecke, Brad, Brian, Bruce and Michelle Hove and Linda Ravens.Conway funeral home handled the arrangements.

Clifford, 87, died Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.

Clifford Lester Burgess was born July 25, 1912 in Orleans Township, Winneshiek County, the son of George and Emma (Greenslade) Burgess. He attended the rural school and graduated from the Cresco High School.

On March 27, 1937 he married Edith Ione Shuttleworth at Edith's parents home. They lived all of their lives in the Cresco area.

Cliff was a farmer, a long-time member of the Board of Trustees of Vernon Springs township, a life-time member of the United Methodist church and was a former member of the Cresco Saddle Club.

Survivors include two daughters: Diana Hove of Kankakee, IL. and Rosalie Bernick of Falling Waters, WV; two sons: George and Richard both of Cresco; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Clifford was preceded in death by his wife Edith on August 23, 1995; one son, Thomas; one grandson; his parents; three brothers: James,John and Charles; and three sister: Ellen Daly, Catherine Williams and Vera Price.
