Charles Buswell, Cresco Jeweler, Dies Wednesday
Funeral services for Charles M. Buswell,51,Cresco jeweler, who died in the Veterans hospital, in Iowa City, last Wednesday, were held from the Cresco First Lutheran church Sunday afternoon.
The Rev. Carsten Smeby, pastor, was in charge of the services, and burial was in the Oaklawn cemetery. The Bradley Funeral home had charge of the funeral arrangements.
Charles M. Buswell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Buswell, was born at Meriden, in Cherokee county, November 6, 1906. He received his early education at Meriden, and later attended the Iowa State Teachers college, at Cedar Falls, for one year.
Mr. Buswell worked with his father for a time in a grocery store and then entered business for himself as a photographer. About 1930 he took employment with the Diamond Brothers grocery organization working for it for 10 years.
After completing military service, he rejoined the Diamond firm. He was married to Wilma Olson November 6, 1940.
Because of illness, which compelled him to seek less strenuous work, Mr. Buswell took a course in watchmaking and repair, at Elgin, Illinois. On completion of the course he was employed in Oelwein and later for the Downey Jewelry store in Cresco. The last three months Mr. Buswell operated his own shop.
Mr. Buswell was a member of the First Lutheran church.
Surviving Mr. Buswell are his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Joanna, 10, and a son, Jon, three, and his father, Arthur Buswell of Meriden.
There are also four sisters, Mrs. Louise Lamont of Meriden, Mrs. John (Anna Mae) Dawson of Minneapolis, Mrs. George (Marjorie) Povlsen of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Myrle (Norma) Wilson of Cherokee, and three brothers, Morrell of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Milton of Whippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and the Rev. Nelson Buswell of Cody, Wyoming. There are a large number of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1938.
