Donald C. Erickson, 73, of Cresco, died Wednesday July 2, 1997, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, of cancer.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5, at 1 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, with the Rev. Gary Lee officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery at Cresco, with military honors by the V.F.W. and the American Legion posts. The Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Erickson was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Decorah, the son of Ingebret E. and Christine Knapstad Anderson Erickson. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage to Ruby Opsahl Dec. 10, 1944. Since 1950, they had lived in Cresco. He has had numerous occupations and businesses over the years, including being owner and operator of the Stop Light Cafe and Tavern from 1960-70. In 1971, he was employed at Donaldson Co., retiring Sept. 9, 1988.

Throughout the years 1954-74, he was a member of the volunteer fire department. With his interest in fire safety, he began Cresco Fire Safety in the mid '70's to recharge fire extinguishers. He continued his business until April 1, 1997.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the VFW and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; two daughters, Donna Lauckhart of Bellevue, Wash., and Pamela Powers of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a son, Larry of Decorah; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Hagen of Manitowoc, Wis., Gertrude Solheim of Yuma, Ariz., and Arla Lyon of Decorah.

Donald C. Erickson was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle and Edwin, and a sister, Eloise Seiler.
