Marva Lee Marie Miller was born Feb. 27, 1943 in Cresco the daughter of Darwin and Elsie (Lovell) Miller. Her childhood was spent on the farm northwest of Cresco. She attended the Cresco Schools graduating in 1961 with the first class of the newly consolidated Howard-Winneshiek Crestwood High School. In 1963, she received her Associate’s Degree in business from Waldorf College at Forest City, Iowa. After college, she lived for a short time in Decorah where she worked in the office at Deco Products. Later, she worked for the Howard Winneshiek Community School and eventually retired around 2005 from many years of working for Spectrum.
Being a lifelong member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, she baptized on October 26, 1943, confirmed on May 26, 1957, was a member of the WELCA, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School in the past. Her faith led her to work very hard in her own way on that which she felt strongly about when she was younger and able.
Marva Lee enjoyed baking and candy making, liked watching sports, playing Bingo, following the farm markets, loved her dog (Benji) and cats, and for a time was a member of the Red Wing Collectors. After her mother died, Marva Lee moved to Cresco. She “looked after Martha Moore,” and later when Marva Lee developed rheumatoid arthritis and other health issues, she and Betty Vlk, also with health issues, “looked after each other.” Since October of 2013, Betty’s daughter, Kay Vlk, took Marva Lee into her home. While living in Charles City with Kay, Marva Lee enjoyed the cats, listening and playing music with Kay’s children, and playing catch with Sebastian.
She is survived by special friend, Kay Vlk, of Charles City, IA, who was like the “daughter Marva Lee never had”; Kay’s children, John, Katie, David, and Sebastian; sister-in-law, Cathy Miller of Indianola, IA; cousins, Marilyn Miller Reis of Cresco, Gayle (Gary McLaughlin) Lybbert of Alamo, TX and Avis (Lovell) Andre of Ames, IA; and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Garyl D. Miller, and good friend Betty Vlk.
