Elgin Echo, Elgin, Iowa, Thur., 12 March 1903.
A young man by the name of Robbie Chapel, of Cresco, shot himself with suicidal intent last week, Thursday, the bullet entering the left breast just above the heart. The physicians say the wound is fatal. He was despondent over his condition, having been a hopeless sufferer with consumption for some time.

NOTE: An apparent reference to Robert Chapel 1883 - 1903 whose gravestone photo appears on the IGPP in Oakland cemetery with a number of other Chapel family members.

Robbie Chapel passed away Friday morning about 3 o’clock, living about 12 hours after receiving his self-inflicted wound. His obituary appears elsewhere.
Obituary.
Robert Edwin, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Chapel passed away at the home of his parents in Cresco, Friday February 27, 1903, aged 19 years 9 months and 24 days.
Robert was born at Felton, California, May 3rd 1883. When only a small boy be moved with his parents to Cresco in the spring of 1886, having resided here ever since. About a year ago he suffered an attack of La Grippe from which he never entirely recovered. Consumption claimed him as a victim and during the last weeks of winter he failed rapidly. His death was painless. Robert was an affectionate son and brother and leaves to mourn his departure, father, mother and three sisters.
Funeral services was conducted by Rev. Gammons from the Methodist Episcopal church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30. The church was crowded to the galleries, over 500 people being in attendance. Of amiable disposition and quiet life, he won many warm friends who regret his untimely departure.
