Mrs. Ada Blackburn, Early Teacher Here, Dies on Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Ada E. Blackburn, 78, widow of the late N.A.Blackburn of Cresco, were held from the Peckosh Funeral home Saturday morning.

Conducting the services for Mrs. Blackburn, who died Thursday, was the Rev. Robert Butler of the Methodist church. Burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery.

Mrs. Blackburn, the former Ada E. Eighney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Eighney, was born in Iowa, June 25, 1879. She was graduated from the Iowa State Normal school and came to Cresco in 1897 to teach in the primary department of the Cresco schools.

She taught six years and then married N. Arthur Blackburn. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Blackburn supervised the Mission Sunday school in the south ward school building. Mrs. Blackburn was also an antique dealer.

Surviving Mrs. Blackburn are two sisters, Mrs. Lucretia Hopkins of Duluth, Minnesota, and Mrs. Edith Curtis of Dubuque. There are also several nephews and one niece, and two cousins, Mrs. Berneta Moore of Kendallville, and W.J. Fullen of Austin, both of whom were cared for by Mrs. Blackburn during their childhood.

Preceding Mrs. Blackburn in death were her husband, N. Arthur Blackburn, an attorney, and a daughter, Ruth.
