Fred G. Rosenbaum age 92 of Waucoma died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Linn Haven Rehab & Healthcare in New Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waucoma, with Rev. Nick March celebrating the Mass. Interment with military honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waucoma.

Friends may greet the family 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013, at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Waucoma where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Frederick Gerald Rosenbaum was born May 28, 1921, in Cresco, IA, the son of Louis and Mathilda (Huber) Rosenbaum. He received his education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina. He served in the United States Army having been drafted in 1943 and being honorably discharged on October 28, 1945. He served in England, Germany and France. On December 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to Lavon Meyer. To this union a son, Jerry was born.

The couple lived in Waucoma where Fred worked at Phil Balk’s garage as a mechanic and then for Myers Brothers construction until retiring. His son Jerry died on March 1, 1968, while serving his country in Vietnam. He enjoyed gardening, building Martin houses, building picture frames and riding his bike. During the winter months, Fred could be seen plowing the streets of Waucoma. Memberships include St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Post of Waucoma.

Survivors include a granddaughter, LouAnn (Todd) Burg of Inver Grove Heights, MN; a grandson, Brian (Andrea) Bouska of South St. Paul, MN; five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah, Matthew, Thomas and Sophia Burg; one brother, Gilbert (Carmelita) Rosenbaum of New Hampton; three sisters, Rita Shindelar of West Union, IA, Ruth Hansel of Ft. Atkinson, IA and Dorothy Smith of Cersco, IA; a brother-in-law, Neal (Irene) Meyer of West Des Moines, IA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2001; his son; three sisters, Carmella Holtey, Evelyn Gillam and Mary Baker; one brother, George Rosenbaum; two step-sons, Bernard “Dumpy” Bouska and Louis “Butch” Bouska.
