Robert F. “Bob” Zak, 61, of West Union, Iowa, formerly of Cresco, died Friday, December 13, 2013, at Good Samaritan Center West Union, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, Iowa, with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert Francis Zak was born April 21, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Richard and Norma (Osenga) Zak. Bob attended St. Joseph’s School and Crestwood graduating from high school in 1970. While in high school he worked part time for Johnsrud Trucking, washing semi tractor/trailers and doing odd jobs. After high school he worked as a mechanic, and drove over the road for Johnsrud Trucking. Bob worked as a mechanic and refrigeration specialist for New Ulm Freight Lines. Later he worked for Rawlins Diesel Service, and Wyoming Diesel as a diesel mechanic. In the early to mid 1980s he returned to Cresco. Bob worked for Mackenburg Pallets. In addition, Bob also worked as an electrician, a trade he learned at an early age from his dad. After returning to Cresco he would often DJ for various events. The past seven years Bob has made his home at Good Samaritan Center in West Union. He enjoyed snowmobiling in his younger days, playing pool, cards, cribbage, reading his train magazines, doing jigsaw puzzles, suduko puzzles, and socializing with his friends.
Bob is survived by his father Richard Zak of Cresco, sister Barbara Zak (Jim Dietzenbach) of Cresco, Patricia (William) Krause of Hanover, MN, brother Michael Zak (Michele Patterson) of Cresco, sisters Jackie (Jeff) Brown of Savage, MN, and Annette (Tim) Paulson of Mound, MN, nieces and nephews Laura (Ahmed Mudhafar) Krause, Katelyn (Joe) Ortmann, Joel (Samantha) Zak, Jeff Zak, Michael Brown, Emily, Amber, and Molly Paulson, and 6 great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his Good Samaritan family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother Norma, a sister Mary and twin brothers at birth, and several aunts and uncles.
