Elizabeth Albers was born June 7, 1845 in Alsace, France. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Herr. When about four years old she came with her parents to Stratford, Ontario. In 1861 she came to Decorah, Iowa. In 1864 she was married to Henry Albers. They made their home on a farm south of Decorah for a short time and in 1881 the family moved onto a farm three miles west of Ridgeway, where they lived until 1908 when they moved to Cresco where the deceased since has lived and where she departed this life Jan. 21, 1931, at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 4 days.

Eleven children were born to this union. Her husband and four children preceded her in death. The deceased is survived by five sons: George of Lake Benton, Minn., Fred of Big Lake, Minn., Henry, John, and Edwin of Cresco, Iowa, and two daughters, Mrs. John Kuntz of Centuria, Wis., and Mrs. Frank Blackburn of Cresco; also by 31 grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Albers united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1865 and remained a loyal member until her death. The deceased enjoyed fairly good health until about eight weeks ago when her strength began to fail. Since then she made her home with her son Edwin and family. About four weeks ago she was taken sick with flu, followed by pneumonia. During her sickness she was tenderly and lovingly cared for by different family members of her family until death came as a welcome relief to set her soul free to enter her heavenly home.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the M.E. church, the Rev. O.A. Menzner, pastor of the M.E. church at Ridgeway officiating assisted by the Rev. J.W. Reed, pastor of the Cresco church. Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery.
