An Old Time Printer Dies At County Home

Thomas Allen, who has lived at the county home for several years, died there Friday April 21, and was buried in Oaklawn cemetery Monday afternoon, following a brief service conducted by Rev. W.H. Mitchell at the Wren-Easler funeral home. His parents were among the early settlers of this region, living at New Oregon before Cresco was started. He learned the printers trade and was employed on a daily paper in Dubuque for several years in the days when all type setting was done by hand. He also worked in the printing offices in Cresco and Lime Springs. He also worked for several years on the dray line here under the late Ed Craighill. He had no relatives here. One brother, Jesse, lived here many years ago, but he could not be located. Mr. Allen was nearly 80 years of age, according to the best information obtainable. He had been in failing health for several months.
