Mrs. W.R. Ashley

Mrs. W.R. Ashley died at her home on First Ave. East Sunday afternoon, December 17, 1944. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Geo. W. Turner officiating. Rev. and Mrs. Turner at the request of the family sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Crossing the Bar." Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery.

Anna Catherine Brink was the daughter of George and Sophia Brink. She was born in Albion twp. Howard county, Ia., July 14, 1874 and died at the age of 70 years and five months. She was one of a family of 11 children of whom four brothers and two sisters survive. When a child she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Granger, Minn.

On Dec. 10, 1891, she was united in marriage with Otto Stevens and to them one daughter was born, Hazel, who is Mrs. Ralph Peckham of Cresco. In the fall of 1898 the family moved to the farm which continued to be her home. Mr. Stevens died Sept. 11, 1917.

On Feb. 10, 1919, she was united in marriage with W.R. Ashley by the Rev. Geo. Turner, who was then pastor of the Methodist church at Bonair. After many happy and active years on their farm in Albion township, Mr. and Mrs. Ashley moved to their home in Cresco about one year ago.

Those who knew Mrs. Ashley in the Albion community remember her energy, her friendly, open-hearted way, her interest in community life and her loyalty to her friends and church. She united with the Methodist church April 14, 1918, during the ministry of the Rev. E.C. Ferree. She was a member of the C.I.C. adult Sunday school class, so called because it met on Sunday afternoons "in the corner" of the church, a class that was a very definite asset to the church and in which Mrs. Ashley took an active and untiring part.

Surviving her are her husband and daughter, two grandchildren, Lillian Peckham of Mt. Pleasant, Ia., and Arthur Peckham of Cresco; two great grandchildren, Ruth Ann and Ray Thomas Peckham; one step-daughter, Thelma Ashley of Cedar Rapids; four brothers, John and Eno Brink of Granger; George of Wykoff, Minn.; also two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Bronner and Mrs. Christine Halliday of Cresco. There are many nieces, nephews, and a large number of friends.
