OBITUARY.
Died at his residence in Macon, Georgia, of disease of the heart. Prof. A. N. Whitney, brother-in-law of T. W. P. Lee, of this place. Mr. Whitney will be remembered as at a musical convention in this county some years ago. He had been employed as musical director in the Wesleyan Female College of Macon for nine years. His funeral was attended by a large concourse of people, the Masonic body, of which he was a member, acting as an escort. The following preamble and resolutions were adopted by the Faculty and students of the College:

Our associate teacher and friend, ALBERT N. WHITNEY, is dead.

This sad event occurred at his residence in this city, on the morning of the 23d instant. For nine years he was musical director in the Wesleyan Female College and during that long period he was faithful patient and devoted, winning the confidence and affection of his associates and pupils.

Professor Whitney was a Christian gentlemen, and illustrated in his life the sublime principles of the religion he professed. A good husband, a loving father, a sincere friend, a useful man, his death is a calamity to his family and the college; therefore be it

Resolved, That in the death of Prof. Whitney the Wesleyan Female College has lost an efficient officer and successful teacher.

2. That we, his associates and pupils, deplore his death as a personal bereavement, but bow in humble recognition to the Will of Him who doeth all things well.

3. That we tender our sincere sympathies to his bereaved family, and commend them to the tender care of the Judge of the widow and Father of the fatherless.

4. That copies of the foregoing Preamble and Resolutions be furnished to the family of the deceased, and also, published in the Telegraph and Messenger and Southern Christian Advocate.
