Death of an Old Resident.

On Friday, Jan. 26th, 1877, Ephraim Wilcox, one of the early settlers of Busti, Chautauqua county, died at his residence near this city, aged about 85 years. Mr. Wilcox was born in Herkimer county, and came to this place just sixty years ago, in 1816, and has resided on the same farm ever since. He was a man of indomitable perseverance and energy and with his sons, cleared one hundred and fifty acres of wood land for Henry Baker, where Jamestown now stands. He raised a family of eleven children, six sons and five daughters, and all but three survive him. He was honest and upright in all his dealings, and was respected by all who knew him for his industrious and energetic character, and his death will be regretted by all who prize the sturdy virtues of that early generation now rapidly passing away.--Jamestown Journal.
