Cecelia (Cec) McKone, 91, died Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Parkview Care Center in Northfield, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, Iowa, with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, at the funeral home.

Cecelia Anna Wessels was born in Bancroft, Iowa on March 21, 1922, the daughter of John and Barbara Wessels. She also lived in Eagle Grove, IA and Pocahontas, IA where she graduated from high school in 1940. Cec spent the war years in New Hampton working in a Medical Clinic.

Cec married Nehl J. McKone in New Hampton, IA on November 17, 1947. Cec and Nehl then moved to Cresco, IA where they spent their life. They had 5 children: Jim, Tom, Mark, Mary and John.

When most of the children had left home in 1975, Cec started a business career as the owner of the Cresco Davis Paint Store. She was very involved in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church including holding various offices in the Altar Society, and was one of the first women Eucharistic Ministers in the parish. Cec enjoyed bridge, crossword puzzles, golf, family activities, and was active in the bowling league.

She is survived by her children and their families: Jim (fiancé Aleta Alden McCann), his children Ryan (wife Jenn Cammarano) and Katie (husband Andy McDonald); Tom (wife Virginia), children Justin and Stephen; Mark; Mary (husband John Halstvedt) twin sons Scott and Kyle; and John (wife Amy Oriani) children Christopher and Ben. She is also survived by her sister Rosemary Wren. Cec was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nehl, her sisters Eileen (Sister Elsa), Dorothy Morgan, Francis Mandot, and brothers Larry and Jack (Father Cletus), and Don Wessels.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Notre Dame Parish in Cresco.
