John R. Daley was born April 6, 1927, in Howard County, the son of Loretta (Harris) and John J. Daley. He attended country school until the 8th grade and later received his GED.

On June 23, 1953, he married Mildred Polashek at St. Joe's in Cresco, Iowa. In 1953, he was drafted into the Army serving in the Korean Conflict until 1955. After returning home, Jack joined his father in farming and later joined his brother, Bill, in partnership for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He always said he shouldn't have retired because he loved farming.

Fishing was a huge hobby of Jack's, traveling to Northern Minnesota with neighbors, friends, and family. Reading, telling stories, and playing cards were some other pastimes Jack enjoyed. Jack was a member of the Catholic Order of Forester's, Cresco Wildlife Club, VFW, and served on the church parish council at Assumption.

Jack is survived by his wife Mildred of Cresco; brother: Bill (Wilma) Daley of Cresco; nephews and nieces: Michael Daley of Cresco, Jeanne (Tom) Andersen of Osceola, Iowa, Dave (Pam) Daley of Cresco, Colleen (Keith) Brown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Eileen Courtney of Ossian, Iowa, Greg (Rosie) Courtney of Columbia, Mo., Mary (Dr. Michael) Herrick of Oshkosh, Wis., Dr. John (Michele) Kepros of East Lansing, Mich.; and a sister-in-law: Connie (Dr. Stan) Kepros of Cresco.
