INDIANOLA - Funeral services for Garyl "Gary" D. Miller of Indianola, Iowa were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Interment was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Menlo.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.

Gary, 74, died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Garyl D. Miller was born Dec. 13, 1938, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Darwin and Elsie (Lovell) Miller. He grew up on the farm and attended Cresco High School. Following high school he attended the University of Iowa attaining a BA degree in 1963. Gary went on to attend Iowa State University graduating in 1972 with a Master's Degree in Sociology.

On Aug. 25, 1979 he married Cathy Foresman at the Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. Gary worked at The Iowa School for Boys in Eldora, The Department of Elder Affairs in Des Moines and as a Statistician with the State of Iowa for 28 years before retiring in 2000. The family has settled in Indianola for the last 33 years.

Gary was an avid reader. He cheered on and attended the Iowa State Cyclones in the annual Iowa/Iowa State football games. He enjoyed collecting railroad timetables. He loved visiting his farm ground in Guthrie County and Northeast Iowa.

Gary is survived by his wife: Cathy Miller of Indianola; and a sister: Marva Lee Miller of Cresco.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
