LIME SPRINGS - A Mass of Christian Burial for Shay E. Peckham of Lime Springs, Iowa will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco. Interment will be held in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Heritage Event Center in Cresco. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco is handling the arrangements.

Shay, 17, died Sunday, July 14, 2013 in New Hampton, Iowa.

Shay Elizabeth Peckham was born Feb. 8, 1996, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Jeff and Colleen (Conway) Peckham. Shay grew up on the farm northwest of Cresco where she developed a strong love of the animals. She received her education in the Notre Dame Elementary School, Crestwood Junior High, and would have started her senior year at Crestwood High School. Shay has been active in Crestwood volleyball, track, and softball, and was the boys basketball manager. She was a member of the Crestwood FFA and the Millennium Master 4-H Club. Shay played Granger-Florenceville softball in her younger years. She has shown cattle, sheep, dogs, and horses at the Mighty Howard County Fair. Shay had two photographs that she had shown at the fair and went on to the Iowa State Fair.

She loved the animals at the farm, especially Twinkletoes; her cow, Domino; her horse, and the dogs; Grace, Calley, Willow, and Holly, and many cats. Her plans were to become a Vet Tech and work with animals and farm with her dad. She loved the outdoors, including farming and hunting with her dad, brothers, and the Golden Ridge Gang.

Shay is survived by her parents, Jeff and Colleen Peckham; two brothers: Sawyer and Stone Peckham all of Lime Springs; her boyfriend: Jesse Johnson of New Hampton; paternal grandmother: Lorraine Peckham; and maternal grandparents: Don and Camilla Conway all of Cresco; paternal great-grandmother: Irene Aarre of Preston, Minn.; aunts and uncles: Joy (Bill Caffrey) Peckham, and her children, Rebecca, Kyle, and Lee, Jim Conway, Joellyn (Mike) Berg, and their children, Samantha (Jason) Hrdlicka, Tasha (Jerry Fay) Berg, David and Alex, Cari (Jamie) Hoppe, and their children, Ethan, Alexis, Austin, Emmaly all of Cresco; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather: Steven Peckham; uncle: John Peckham; paternal great-grandparents: Art and Geneva Peckham, Rueben Bigalk, and maternal great-grandparents: Jim and Ellen Conway, and Robert and Adeline Shinstine.

Car-motorcycle accident claims 17-year-old girl

NEW HAMPTON – A car-motorcycle accident in Chickasaw County Sunday claimed the life of a Lime Springs teenager and injured two others.
The accident happened around 12 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the intesection of D22 and Randolf Avenue, near Protivin.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 17-year-old Shay Peckham of Lime Springs drove through a stop sign, and the driver’s side of her car was struck by a motorcycle. Peckham died, and Joseph Bouska 54, and Lavonne Bouska, 56, of Fort Atkinson were flown to area hospitals, where Lavonne later died.
As of press time, conditions of Joseph had not been released.
