Sister Mary Grace Funeral at Dubuque

Funeral services for Sister Mary Grace, R.S.M., the former Rose Thielen, were held April 12, at the Mercy Medical Center, Sacred Heart Chapel in Dubuque. Burial was in the Mount Olivet Cemetery at Dubuque. She died April 10, at the Mercy Medical Center.

She was born May 11, 1897, at Cresco, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Thielen. She was a member of St. Joseph's parish in Cresco, baptized and attended school there. She entered the Sisters of Mercy of the Union in the United States of America at Dubuque in 1917. She served in several hospitals, both in Iowa and in Michigan, as supervisor of nursing units. She was also an x-ray technician and served in this capacity many years at Mt. Carmel Mercy hospital in Detroit, Mich.

In 1968 Sister Mary Grace returned to Cresco, being assigned to St. Joseph Mercy hospital, semi-retired, where she took care of the chapel and other duties.

Sister Mary Grace is survived by two brothers, John Thielen of Elkton, S. Dakota, and Frank Thielen of Chicago, Ill., as well as several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Joseph Shea of Cresco.
