Rev. Charles Marshall of Sunnyvale, Cal., sends The Times a clipping a California paper, giving an account of the life work of Dr. C.N. Cooper who passed away at his home in Campbell Jan. 21, 1924, aged 80 years. Mr. Marshall says: "Last week I assisted at the funeral services of the deceased mentioned in this clipping. It was he (Dr. Cooper) who assisted me into the world and quite co-incidentally I assisted in his departure 50 odd years later out here in California."
The following paragraph from the obituary will be of interest to some of the older residents of this region.
"He married Lydia Windsor immediately upon graduation in 1869 and began the practice of Medicine. He was in Cresco, Iowa, five years and then at Batavia, Illinois, for thirteen, where he had a heavy practice. It was the arduous toil and exposure to the cruel winters that here broke his health. He never spared himself however bitter the storm, and even his iron constitution could not stand the continual strain."
Dr. Cooper was of Puritan ancestry, being a direct descendent of Elder Brewster of the Mayflower. He was educated in Grinnell College and was a veteran of the Civil war.
His wife was a daughter off Rev. J. W. Windsor, who organized the first Congregational church at Vernon Springs in 1856, and was pastor of the same in New Oregon and in its early days at Cresco.
Dr. Cooper built the house occupied later by Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Lomas and where Mrs. Lomas still lives.
