Marie Stevenson services Thursday
Funeral services for Marie Stevenson, 86, of Charles City, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Elma with Pastor Maurice Lind officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery at Maple Leaf. Gary Zajic, Rick Kimble, Bob Gansen, Ron Dugan, Kent Vrieze and Jessie Dugan will serve as pall bearers. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren: Jerri Dugan, Scott and Christopher Zajic, Glen Stevenson and Summer and Faith Schmidtke. Conway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marie died Monday, April 12 at her home of natural causes.
Marie C. Deterding was born April 30, 1912 at rural Elma the daughter of Louie and Bertha (Laue) Deterding. She received her education in the rural school near the family home.
On November 3, 1932 she married Gerald Stevenson at St. Paul’s Church in Maple Leaf. The couple lived and farmed near Saratoga. In 1958 they moved to Elma where they owned and operated a gas station. She was a homemaker and worked at Shafer’s Nursing Home in Elma and at St. Joseph Community Hospital in New Hampton. She retired in 1977.
Marie was an active member of St. Peters Lutheran Church Ladies Aide and of the Colonial Manor Auxiliary in Elma.
She is survived by one son Ralph of Ionia; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister Edna Fountain of Jefferson, WI.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; her parents; two sons in infancy; and one brother Henry Deterding.
