Mrs. Edward Shimek Funeral at Lourdes

Funeral services for Helen R. Shimek of Elma, were held Nov. 13 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes church, Lourdes. The Rev. Henry Dunkel officiated and burial was at the Holy Cross cemetery at Schley.

Mrs. Shimek died suddenly on Nov. 10 in Elma after a short illness.

Helen R. Shimek was born Dec. 9, 1907, in Howard county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Drtina. She attended rural school in Howard county, Cresco High and Cedar Falls college. She is a retired school teacher and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society of Lady of Lourdes church. On June 9, 1931, she married Edward Shimek at the Lourdes church.

She is survived by her husband and two children Mrs. Marvin (Gloria) Tonn of Elma, and Carl Shimek of Fredericksburg; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Adolph Shimek, Lime Springs, Mrs. Leo Hyberger, Mrs. Floyd Copeman, and George F. Drtina, all of Cresco, and Arthur J. Drtina of Marion. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank, and a sister, Mrs. Grace Bagan.

Relatives and friends attended the services from Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Marion, Des Moines, Mason City, Elma, Spring Valley and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
