Services held for Elizabeth Scheidel

Funeral services for Elizabeth “Betty” Scheidel were held on Wednesday, August 1 at the Holy Cross Church with interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery, both in Schley. Rev. John Moser, Rev. Leo Riley, and Rev. Allen Schmitt officiated. Honorary pall bearers were: Mr. and Mrs. Gene Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy McCarroll, and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Schmitt. Pall bearers were: Steve Simmen, Dave Simmen, Arlis Bader, Larry Bader, Randy Reicks, Tom Schatz, Craig Shores, and Reggie Horak. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Elizabeth Scheidel was born December 30, 1937 in Winneshiek County near Spillville, the daughter of Louis and Adela (Kalishek) Bader. She attended and graduated from high school at Rudolphinium in Protivin.

On September 25, 1956 she married Norman Scheidel at the Holy Trinity in Protivin. Following their marriage they moved on the home farm in Schley.

She served as a volunteer for The Blood Mobile, and a committee member of the Schley Holy Cross Rosary Society, the Howard County Hospital Auxiliary, the Howard County Fair Board, the Howard County Care Facility Auxiliary and Board and recently named to the President Advocate Committee for the Howard County Residential Care Facility.

Her hobbies included sewing, working in the garden, cooking, antiquing, and fishing.

SCHLEY - Elizabeth (Betty) Scheidel, 63, died July 28, 2001 in her home at Schley of cancer.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at Holy Cross Church, Schley. Rev. John Moser, Rev. Leo Riley and Rev. Allen Schmitt celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Suzanne Ollendick was organist, accompanying vocalists Denise Miller and Margaret Johnsrud.
Interment was in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Schley. Conway Funeral Home, Cresco, was in charge of the arrangements. Gene and Lennie Jensen, Cresco, Vern and Irene Schmitt and LeRoy and Charlotte McCarroll, Cresco were the honorary pallbearers. Pallbearers were Arlis Bader, Randy Reicks, Craig Shores, Steve Simmen, Dave Simmen, Larry Bader, Tom Schatz and Reggie Horak.
Elizabeth (Betty) Scheidel was born Dec. 30, 1937, the daughter of Lois and Adela (Kalishek) Bader, near Spillville. She graduated from Rudolphinium High School, Protivin Betty and Norman Scheidel were united in marriage on September 25, 1956 at the Holy Trinity
Church, Protivin and moved to the family farm at Schley. Betty was an active member of Holy Cross Church, ACCW, and a committee member of the Holy Cross Rosary Society. She served as custodian of the Holy Cross Church and the cemetery. She was a diligent volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Mobile, was a committee member of the Howard County Hospital Auxiliary, the Howard County Fair Board, the Howard County Care Facility Auxiliary ana Board and was recently named to the Resident Advocate Committee for the Howard County Residential Care Facility. She had numerous hobbies, including cooking, gardening, sewing, fishing and collecting antiques.
Surviving are her husband, Norman; two daughters, Lynelle Scheidel, Des Moines and Lori Jo Scheidel, Boulder, CO, three sons, Lon, Loren and Lynn (Becky) Scheidel, Cresco; two grandchildren, two sisters, LaVerne Simmen, Central City, and Donna Mae Shores, Winston Salem, NC; and one brother, Robert Bader, Protivin.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a daughter, LuAnn.
