Raphael Opat funeral held Nov. 18 Schley
Funeral services for Raphael (Ray) Joseph Opat were held Nov. 18, at the Holy Cross Catholic church at Schley with the Rev. Donald Bakewell and the Rev. John Ptacek officiating. Burial was in the Holy Cross cemetery with the Conway Funeral home in charge of arrangements. He died suddenly on Nov. 16, at the age of 41.
Mr. Opat was born March 27, 1935, in Howard county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Opat. He attended rural country schools of Howard county. On June 18, 1957, he married Anita Vrba. He formerly farmed on his own, then worked for seven years for Hurst Farms, then five years as mechanic for Johnsrud Transports and recently was employed by Acme Construction. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic church.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Dennis, Julie, Jane and Danny all at home, his father; his step mother, Mrs. Joe Opat, a sister, Mrs. Jim (Evelyn) Lindquist of Stewartville, Minn.
Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Stewartville, Minn., Gilbertville, Tripoli, Ft. Atkinson, Lawler, Waterloo, Protivin, Charles City, Schley and Cresco and other towns in Iowa and Minnesota.
