George Slifka, 82, dies in Canada

Word has been received of the death of George Slifka of Stettler, Alberta, Canada. He died at Stettler General Hospital on February 3, 1987 at the age of 82.

George Slifka was born in Cresco on March 1, 1904, a son of James and Barbara (Shileny) Slifka. He moved with his family to Canada in 1912. He was united in marriage to Ada Charmley in 1929 and they were the parents of four sons. His wife Ada died.

George married Charlotte Webb in 1940 and they were the parents of two daughters and two sons. George worked as a mechanic, retiring in 1970. He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; seven children; 27 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; also two brothers, Jim and Ed.
