CARL HORN FATALLY INJURED IN TRAIN AND CAR COLLISION
Impact of Engine Said To Have Cut Auto Almost In Half
Carl Horn, 32, of near Lime Springs, was fatally injured Tuesday morning about 1:00 o’clock, when the car in which he was riding was struck by a southbound passenger train at Alta Vista. He died in the New Hampton hospital at 3:00 o’clock this morning.
Mr. Horn was returning home from Alta Vista with a neighbor, John Haskovec, and a Miss Anderson of near Cresco. Mr. Haskovec and Miss Anderson were in the front seat and Mr. Horn was alone in the back seat. He was injured when the train struck the rear end of the automobile and the impact is said to have cut the car almost in two.
Other Occupants Uninjured
Mr. Horn suffered lacerations, a punctured hip and his back was broken. He was placed in the baggage car of the train and taken to the New Hampton hospital. The other occupants of the car were uninjured.
The body is at the Peckosh funeral home. Funeral arrangements are pending, awaiting arrival of deceased’s half sister, Mrs. J. A. Tuchek, who is returning home from LeMars, Ia., where she was visiting relatives. Besides Mrs. Tuchek, Mr. Horn is survived by his father, Andrew Horn of Cresco, three brothers and three half-brothers. The brothers are Richard Horn of near Cresco; Ray of Alta Vista; Sylvester, who is in college at Shawnee, Okla.; Clarence and Art Huber of Cresco and Julius Huber of Austin, Minn.

Carl A. Horn
Carl Anton Horn was born on a farm near Ft. Atkinson, Ia., Jan. 16, 1910. He died in the New Hampton hospital, Sept. 23, 1942, of injuries received the day previous when the automobile which he was driving was struck by a passenger train.
He was a son of Andrew and Anna Moravec Horn. His mother died September 15, 1936. His father, three brothers, 3 half brothers and one half sister survive. The brothers and sister are Richard Horn of Cresco; Raymond Horn of Alta Vista; the Rev Fr. Augustine Horn, O. L. B., Shawnee, Okla.; Arthur Huber and Clarence Huber of Cresco; Julius Huber of Austin, Minn., and Mrs. J. A. Tuchek of Cresco.
His oldest half brother, Ed Huber and his son and daughter were killed in a train accident near Cedar Rapids in September, 21 years ago.
At the age of four years he moved with his family from the farm near Ft. Atkinson to a place south of Cresco and about 10 years ago the family again moved to a farm 7½ miles southwest of Cresco, near Schley. He lived there until two years ago when he started farming for himself near Lime Springs. He was engaged in that occupation up to the time of his death.
Funeral services were held at Holy Cross church at Schley Saturday morning. The Rev. Hradecky officiated. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Attending the funeral from a distance were the Rev. Fr. Augustine Horn of Shawnee, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moudry and son Emil of Calmar; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Billmyer of LeMars, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Huber, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Huber, sons Cecil and Dale of Austin.
