Body of Andrew Horn Found Frozen After He Suffered Attack
The frozen body of Andrew Horn, age 73, was found in his home in Cresco yesterday morning at 9:45 o’clock.
A life-long resident of Howard and Winneshiek county, Mr. Horn was found in his home, near the Burgess Lumber company, by Norman Bradley and R. M. Terry, constable, who were called by Mike Slifka, when he could get no answer from the house when he knocked on the door.
Mr. Horn had used Mr. Slifka’s truck on Friday, and it was parked outside the house. When Mr. Slifka came to get it and discovered that the door was locked on the inside and that he was unable to arouse Mr. Horn, he summoned relatives who called Mr. Bradley and Mr. Terry.
The Cresco man was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Horn and was born February 28, 1875, in Winneshiek county. He married Mrs. Anna Huber who had four children, Mrs. Leone Tuchek, Clarence Huber, Arthur Huber of Cresco, and Julius Huber of Austin. Mr. and Mrs. Horn were the parents of four children, three of whom are living, Richard Horn of Bonair, Raymond Horn of Chester, and Father Augustine, the former Sylvester Horn of Shawnee, Oklahoma. One son, Carl Horn, died in 1942. Mrs. Horn preceded her husband in death in 1934.
There are also living a sister, Mrs. Frank Moudry of Calmar, and 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
When the men entered the house through a window they found the lifeless body partially dressed in a semi-upright position on the bid. Authorities believe that death came as a result of a heart attack either Friday night or Saturday morning.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning in the Holy Cross church in Schley by the Rev. Jaroslav Skulzacek and burial will be in the church cemetery. The Rosary will be said at the Bradley funeral home in Cresco tonight. The Rev. Father Augustine is expected to arrive in Cresco today.
