Services held for Norbert Groth
Services for Norbert Groth were held Saturday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Lutheran Church in Elma with the Rev. Gary Lee officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. The Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Norbert Charles Friedrich Carl Groth, 85, died July 8, 1997, at Cresco Care Center.
Norbert was born on December 29, 1911 in Howard County near Saratoga, the son of Wilhelm and Anna (Ball) Groth. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country schools, graduated from Riceville High School and Upper Iowa University in Fayette.
He was united in marriage to Edith Flugge at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Elma on May 3, 1933. They had one daughter, Donna Jean.
Norbert taught school in the following Iowa towns: Saratoga, Bussey, Riceville, Monona, Earlville, Ames, and Elma. From 1949-1988, he and his wife farmed near Elma and then retired to Cresco. While farming he taught agriculture to Korean and World War II Veterans across Iowa.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna; and two sisters: Leona Schreiber and Alvina Buls, both of Riceville.
