ARLINGTON, TX – Visitation for Deborah L. Bentley of Arlington, TX, formerly of Cresco, IA will be held today, Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco. Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Phillips Cemetery in rural Cresco.

Deborah, 51, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco is handling the arrangements.

Deborah Lynn Bentley was born July 23, 1957, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Ernest and Rosetta (Murray) Bentley. Deb was very involved in speech and drama from high school in Cresco, and served as director of its community theater. She earned a B.A. and an M.A. from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and was certified in rehabilitation administration by University of Missouri, Columbia. She received many scholastic honors throughout these years including magna cum laude, Who’s Who, and Alpha Psi Omega, a national honors fraternity. Deb’s work with Catholic Charities began in 1993 when she managed all four of their residential properties ultimately becoming director of housing. Her extensive career in social work and education included foster parenting, managing a safe house for battered and abused women and children, legal advocacy work, case management and development, and board service on state and local levels.

She is survived by her mother: Rosetta Stattelman and her husband, Lawrence; father: Ernest Bentley and his wife, Leona; sisters: Brenda Jungen and husband, Ron, Roxanne Titts and her fiancé, Dean; brother: Brian Bentley; and best friend, Linda Stewart.

Deborah was preceded in death by her brother: Daniel Bentley; grandparents: Mary and James Bentley, Dan and Eva Murray; and stepbrothers: DeWayne and David Thompson.
