Rites for Mrs. Carrie Lathrop Held Wednesday

Carrie Lathrop, youngest daughter of Stephen and Mary Feather, was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania June 22, 1850 and departed this life June 28, 1922{sic} at the County Home, having attained the age of 82 years and 6 days.

She came to Howard County when 8 years of age in a covered wagon. On December 4, 1872 she was united in marriage to James Lathrop, the ceremony taking place at Howard Center, Iowa, where they made their home for fifty-one years. One child was born to them but died in infancy.

At the death of her husband in 1924 Mrs. Lathrop moved to Cresco, but because of failing health she went to the County Home in January of this year.

The deceased was the last of a large family, three brothers and four sisters preceding her in death. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and a large gathering of friends who will mourn her departure.

Services were held at 2:00 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Congregational Church of which she was a member, Rev. G. A. Ingle officiating. Burial was made at the Howard Center cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: The date of death is given as 1922 in this article and in the cemetery records; however, the newspaper date shows 1932, the age reflects it is 1932 and the fact that her husband preceded her in death in 1924.
