Husband of Former Cresco Woman Buried On Tuesday Afternoon
Funeral services for Loren E. Johnson of Pierre, South Dakota, husband of the former Edith Perry of Cresco, were held in the Bradley Funeral home Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Howard Center cemetery.
The Rev. R. R. Ahrens conducted the services.
Mr. Johnson died Friday in the Saint Mary hospital in Pierre, after an illness of more than three months. He had undergone surgery in the Rochester Saint Mary hospital July 13, and recovered sufficiently to return to Pierre. However, his condition did not improve enough for him to leave the Pierre hospital.
Mr. Johnson, second son of Emil and Mathilda Johnson, was born in Carlinville, Illinois December 2, 1902. He spent his early life in Carlinville and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He received his education in the Carlinville public schools and spent the summers working in the drug store of his uncle, Theodore Loehr. Later he attended the Saint Louis school of pharmacy, and after his graduation he went to Chicago where he secured a position with the Blackstone drug store. He worked there for several years and later held positions in the Congress and Carnegie stores.
Because of ill health, Mr. Johnson was forced to abandon his chosen profession and spent some time with his parents in Carlinville.
In 1947 he was employed by the Great Plans{?} hotel company and was sent to York, Nebraska, where he was married to Edith Perry of Cresco, at York, March 18, 1947. Later Mr. and Mrs. Johnson moved to Pierre, where they were associated with the Loehs{?} and Saint Charles hotels.
Surviving Mr. Johnson are his wife; a brother, Harold of Chicago; his father of Carlinville, and one niece, Mrs. Frank Garnequ of Oak Park, Illinois.
Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral services were Harold L. Johnson of Chicago, Judge and Mrs. F. L. Mc Avinchey of Flint, Michigan, G. W. Shelhamar of Bozeman, Montana, Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Perry of Ames, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nieman of Sumner.
