Mrs. Ruth McKay former resident, dies
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth W. McKay, a former Cresco resident, who died at her home in Lakeland, Fla., were held Sept. 24, 1976, at the Thornton Funeral Home. The Rev. Theodore Rath of the Westminster Presbyterian church conducted the services.
Emily Ruth Wheeler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wheeler was born in Cresco on Feb. 23, 1890.
Her mother died when she was six years old and she was reared by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah B. Wheeler. On Sept. 22, 1915, she married Fred H. White, who died in January 1921.
After the death of her grandparents and her sister Florence, she continued to live at the home place until she married L. Landreth McKay on Dec. 2, 1935. After that date, Mrs. McKay traveled with her husband, a state examiner for the auditor of state until he retired in 1961 and they moved to their home in Lakeland, Fla.
Mrs. McKay was a member of the Eastern Star,the American Legion auxiliary and the Congregational church of Cresco where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her husband.
