Raphael “Ray” Louis Ferrie, age 79 died peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and children on the morning of Tuesday, July 17, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial followed by Military Rites will be Saturday, July 21st, at 11:00 am at Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony, MN. A private family burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco. Ray was born in Cresco on August 27, 1932, the son of Raymond and Clara (Tupy) Ferrie. He enlisted in the Army on November 6, 1952 and was then sent to Korea. Ray served as a private in the 5th army. He was relieved of duty with an honorable discharge on July 11, 1953, due to an ill father. He married Gladys Frana in Lourdes, Iowa on August 10, 1954. The couple later moved into a farmhouse outside of Kendallville, Iowa. During their 58 years of marriage Ray never went to a barbershop as his wife Gladys always cut his hair. Ray kept busy farming, milking cows, and raising sheep and pigs. He was the 7th employee hired at Donaldson’s Company when it opened and retired from the position of Lead Man after 30 years. He then worked for Winneshiek County Sanitation until retiring in May of 2012. Ray was an avid coon hunter with his dogs, Tippy and Fritz. He also spent time as a member of the Cresco VFW and American Legion and a charter member of the Midwest Sad Iron Collectors Club. Ray enjoyed fishing, teaching his grandchildren to play card games, working in his garage and most of all spending time with his family and friends. Ray is survived by his wife Gladys of Cresco; six children, Dean (Ann) Ferrie of Chester, Iowa, Kenny (Carol) Ferrie of Mora, Minn.Kevin (Deb) Ferrie of Byron, Minn, Russell (Cindy Krause) Ferrie of Lourdes, Iowa, Nancy (Kevin Fonley) Dieter of Cresco, Roger (Kari) Ferrie of Cresco; One sister; Connie (Dallas) Bestor of Cresco; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Ray is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Amy; 2 brother-in-laws, Raymond Hayek and Joseph Stortz; mother and father-in-law George and Cecelia Frana; a sister-in-law, Marie Mashek; and a great-granddaughter Nadja Carr. Honorary casketbearers are Russell, Shaun and Robert Ferrie, Dallas Bestor and Harold Rosendahl. Casketbearers are Peyton, Austin, Dustin, Jason and Seth Ferrie and Michael Dieter.

Visitation is at 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, July 20, 2012 Linstrom Funeral Home in Cresco

Service is 11:00 am on Saturday, July 21, 2012 Nativity Catholic Church, Harmony
