Melita Quam Klein, age 38, of Cresco, IA, died on Monday, June 25, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, IA.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, 1316 Canoe Ridge Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Stacey Nalean – Carlson presiding.

Friends may call from 3:00-6:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, and also after 2:00 p.m., at the church on Sunday afternoon.

Melita Irene Quam Klein was born on July 18, 1973, the daughter of Roger and Louise (Linnane) Quam in Decorah, IA. She was baptized on Aug.9, 1973 at Madison Lutheran Church and confirmed on Oct. 25, 1987 at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. Melita graduated from the GED Program at NICC in 2002. Melita worked as a mechanic, helping to rebuild old cars, was a tractor operator for JB Holland, bartended at Country View Golf Course and at Cowboys and worked as an inspector at CamCar in Decorah. She loved to ride horses and loved all animals, including birds, dogs, and cats. She always kept busy, tending to her garden; where she could always get anything to grow. Melita loved classical music, old movies, poetry, and going fishing. She enjoyed exploring all kinds of faiths, along with believing in healing stones. Melita was a very unique person, loving life and was one of a kind.

Melita is survived by her parents: Roger and Louise Quam, Decorah, IA. Two sisters: Melissa (David) O’Brien, Gaithersburg, MD, and Melanie Cotton, Decorah, IA. One brother: Roger Quam, Jr., Decorah. Nieces and nephews: Declan O’Brien, Andrea Quam, Ariana Kampschroer, Hudson Quam, Olivia & Kendal Quam. Two special step-children: Cyndal & Cole Klein, Cresco, IA, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. A special friend, Jeanette (Chris) Cotant, and their children: Kendall, Karissa and Katrina.

Melita was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Patrick and Irene (McKenna) Linnane. Paternal grandparents: Milford and Elsie (Nessett) Quam. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to the Cancer-Leukemia Research Team at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242.
