Military services for Donald Gager of San Diego,CA, were held in October in San Diego.
Donald Leslie Gager was born September 11, 1906, the son of Leslie and Margaret Gager of Cresco. He was the eldest of 11 children,two died in infancy.
Donald worked on several farms around Cresco before moving to Yankton, SD, with the C.J. Kotosky family to the old Donaldson farm near Yankton. He farmed for himself about four years. In 1943 he enlisted in the "Navy Seabees" for two years, spending time in Hawaii and the Marshall Islands as 2nd Class Machinist Mate after World War II. He also worked as a meat cutter at Donaldson's Grocery in Yankton.
In 1956, he and his wife Mildred, moved to San Diego where Donald was custodian at the Methodist Church. Later on he became the night guard at the County Administration Building.
He was a member of the V.F.W. and a leader of the Boy Scouts.
Donald enjoyed good health until March of 1993 when he fell. He was later confined to the Hospital Convalescent Home where he died October 1993, at the age of 87.
Surviving Donald are his wife, Mildred of San Diego, CA; a son , Jerry: one granddaughter: two brothers, Walter of Cresco and Verne of Marshalltown; three sisters. Ellen Stevens and Carol Casey both of Cresco and Jennie of Des Moines.
Preceeding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Evelyn Swim, Thelma Rotte, Edna Sears.
