DIED
THAYER – November 19, 1878, Bertie L., daughter of W. H. and Maggie Thayer, aged 4 years, 9 months and 2 days.
BERTIE
Dead, our precious, our beautiful;
The sky wears a somber hue,
The light has gone out of our lives,
It flitted, our darling, with you.Dead, and the yellow curls lying
Under the frost and the snow,
The sweet voice silenced forever!
Oh! Why are we chastened so?Dead, but is the dear face shining
With the light of blest Angelhood?
Is there hope that for her it is better
That even this is ordered for good?Alas! Such intangible comfort
Flies away from our bitter pain.
We can only think in our sorrow
We shall see her never again.IRENE
