Howard County Resident Died

Bertha Nellie Hanneman was born May 3, 1879, the daughter of Julius and Friedericka Hanneman in Howard county, Iowa. She was baptized by Rev. Junck and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. John Pless. She was united in Holy Matrimony with Mr. Ferdinand Prinz Feb. 19, 1908. Rev. J. Pless officiated. They lived at different intervals in Canada, in Cresco, and later their present abode on a farm west of Davis Corners. To mention here when the father died, the mother Hanneman struggled through the hardships of life successfully under the guidance of Him that does not forsake the widows and fatherless, the youngest was at that time six years old.

About sixteen weeks ago she became seriously ill; two weeks she was at her home and fourteen weeks at her sister’s, Mrs. Albert Henke. She grew steadily worse, even if at times there was some apparent hope. At all times she was grateful for our spiritual ministry. She and her husband took the Holy Sacrament. She passed away in peace Saturday morning, May 16, 1931 at 9 a.m. at the age of 52 years and 13 days.

She leaves to mourn her widower; her aged mother, Mrs. Fredericka Hanneman; three brothers, Wm., Ed and Ernest Hanneman; three sisters, Ida (Mrs. Albert Henke), Nettie (Mrs. Koester) of Eldorado, Iowa, Nora (Mrs. Paul Krug) of Madison, S. D., and a number of relatives and hosts of friends.

One brother, Fred Hanneman, passed away a few years ago in the state of Wisconsin.

Our departed was a life member of the Lutheran church and for years of the Immanuel Lutheran church of Cresco. She had much of the Good Samaritan spirit to think of the sick and needy and help them. She has gone to her eternal merits redeemed from her care and the anguish of her last illness. Our sympathy to the bereft husband and relatives.

“Lord, teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

Funeral services were held Monday, May 19 at 1:30 p.m., at the Albert Henke home and 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran church. A great number of people attended that service. Interment was made in the Howard Center cemetery. Her pastor, Rev. F. Engelhart officiated.
