Harold “Hoop” Steinmetz Funeral Held Tuesday
Funeral services for Harold (Hoop) Steinmetz were held Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. E. C. Franke officiating. Burial was in the Howard Center cemetery with the Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He died Oct 4, in Lake City, Fla., at the age of 48. In January of this year he had a heart attack and in a few months was back to work and seemed fully recovered.
Mr. Steinmetz was born Aug. 16, 1926, at Cresco, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Steinmetz. He attended the public school and graduated from Cresco high school. On Jan. 31, 1948, he married Phyllis Moser in the Methodist church in Cresco. They became the parents of four children. They lived in Cresco and vicinity until 1971 when they moved to Tallahassee, Fla.
He worked for the Dairy Herd Improvement corporation. Then he was a technician for Eastern Iowa Breeders. For the last 10 years he was an area supervisor for the Carnation Company.
In infancy he was baptized into the membership of Immanuel Lutheran church. On March 17, 1940 he was confirmed. For several years he served on the church council and was chairman of the congregation for two years. He was an active member of the Brotherhood. For the last three years he was a member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran church in Tallahassee, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Steinmetz, Sr.
Mr. Steinmetz is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Tallahassee, Fla.; his mother, Mrs. Sigrid Steinmetz of Cresco; son, David of Alameda, Calif.; daughters, Mrs. John Salisbury of Madison, Wis., Christine of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Michael Cooper of Tallahassee, Fla.; his brothers, Leonard Jr., of Cresco, Robert of Seattle, Wash., and Charles of Washington, D. C.; sisters, Mrs. Louis Chyle of Decorah, Mrs. Ronald Wibben of Stewartville, Minn., and Mrs. Robert McFadden of Overland Park, Kansas.
