Michael Foley, 76

Funeral Services for Michael “Mike” Foley of Cresco, IA were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco. Interment was in Howard Center Cemetery in Cresco with military rites.

Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA handled the arrangements.

Michael, 76, died Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Regional Health Services Hospital in Cresco after an apparent heart attack.

Michael Francis Foley, Jr. was born in Cresco, IA on June 17, 1930, the son of Michael F. and Frances (Op__) Foley. He attended school in Cresco and started working as a mechanic for Ahern Garage.

On February 3, 1951 he married Shirley Bessie Dotzler in Decorah, IA. In November 1951, he entered the U.S. Army and did a tour of duty in Germany as a mechanic. On his return home, Mike worked for a short time for a plumbing and heating business. He later started working for Cresco Masonry Co., which later became Cresco Building Service in which he was a partner. Mike was also trained as a locksmith.

Later, after Shirley’s death, he married Carol Pecinovsky Lentz. They were later divorced.

Mike was a member of the VFW, the Cresco Wildlife Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a past advisor for the welding class at NICC.

He is survived by three children: Sandy (Ron) Shoemate of Concord, MI, Fran (Dean) Miller of Cresco and Lee (Pam Lentz) of Riceville, IA; one grandson: Jason (Ann) Miller; three step grandchildren: Donna (Ed) Wyatt, Phyllis (Dewayne) Anderson, and Ron (Lynda) Shoemate; five step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; and one sister: Kathleen Friedrich of Waterloo, IA.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: William, Edmund, and John Foley; and two infant siblings.
