John “Jack” Byrnes, 82, of Cresco, IA, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012 at home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 North Elm St. in Cresco, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, IA. Right after school Jack went in to the Coast Guard and retired after 20 plus years. After returning to Cresco he worked in construction, building elevators. Jack went on to own a construction business. For 40 years, Jack owned a sewing machine business, repairing all makes and models of sewing machines and vacuum cleaners. In July of 1976 Jack was united in marriage to Darlene Albertson with 35 years of marriage. Jack loved taking cruises, riding on the Harley with Darlene, spending many years on the Mississippi River on their boathouse, fishing, and being around family and friends. He also spent many years involved with the Drift Runners Snowmobile Club, teaching the safety course for 10 years, helping with trail work, and just being a valued member. Jack will be missed by his family and friends, also by his family cats, Slick, Pretty, and Puff. He is survived by his wife, Darlene, sons, Mike (Margaret) Byrnes, Tom (Julie) Byrnes and families all of Decorah, IA, Robert (Becky) Albertson of Defiance, OH, grandson, Brad (Michelle) Lingbeck of Broomfield, CO, and a sister, Betty Moen and family of Cresco, IA. Along with several nieces and nephews. His parents, daughter, Jeanne Lingbeck and a brother, Robert, preceded Jack in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to HOCA or North Iowa Hospice.
