On Thursday, Oct. 4th, after a lingering illness of about two years with that dreaded disease, consumption, the soul of Chas. Boyd winged its flight to that heavenly home. He was born at Georgia, Vt. Dec. 5th, 1861. On Nov. 23rd, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Hannah Woodard, of Fenimore, Wis. Dec. 4th, 1881, he moved to Howard county, where he has since resided. All through his long weary illness, he was so patient, never losing hope of regaining his health. When told his end was near, he expressed a perfect willingness to leave this world, saying that he was so happy going on that long journey. His willingness to go was clearly marked on those beautiful silent features, which only repeated the words of that familiar hymn, “Now I’m resting, sweetly resting, in that cleft once made for me.” He was very much beloved by all who knew him, and his many acts of benevolence done in this community, we trust, is a treasure laid up yonder. He leaves to mourn his early death a wife, six children, a mother, two sisters and three brothers, together with a great many other relatives and friends.

There’s a new made grave on Howard Center’s hillside,
Where the wintry nightwinds blow;
There’s a true heart stilled ‘neath a coffin lid,
While his dear one’s hearts bow in bitter woe,

But his loved ones on the other shore, oh, what joy they felt,
As this loved one entered the golden door.
And father and baby came forward to greet,
And welcome this loved one forever more.

Then is this the end of all earthly ties?
Do our loved ones all perish so?
Must our heart strings snap at the touch of death,
And never a gleam of brightness throw.

Then sorrow no more, ye loved ones,
For the life which naught could save,
For a brighter star gleams through the night of death.
‘Tis “only a home beyond the grave.”
