Funeral services for Ursula M. Lenard of Rochester, MN were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Notre Dame Parish, Assumption Worship Center in Cresco, IA with Rev. Richard J. Ament officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA handled the arrangements.

Ursula, 83, died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Madonna Towers Skilled Nursing Facility in Rochester.

Ursula Mary Lenard was born April 9, 1923 on a farm in Howard County, IA, the daughter of Wenzel and Mary (Urban) Shimek. Ursula was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Lourdes. She attended the rural school, graduating from Assumption High School, Cresco in 1941.

Ursula went on to school at Mercy School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, graduating as an RN. She pursued a career in nursing, working in Oregon, Cresco, and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Ursula was one of the first employees at IBM, Rochester, working for IBM over 30 years at various IBM sites around the United States.

Ursula married Gene Lenard on May 5, 1989, at St. John's Parish in Rochester.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Parish and the Rosary Society in Rochester. Ursula was also member of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for many years at St. Mary's Hospital.

She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, as well as many other crafts. Ursula enjoyed traveling both here and abroad, as well as talking with people.

Survived by her husband, Gene of Burnsville, MN; three step children: Tom Lenard of Marshfield, WI, Mary Lenard of Minneapolis, MN and Jane (Jim) Kretsch of Minneapolis, MN; her sister: Pelagia Shimek of Decorah; nieces and nephews: Lorayne (George) Stastney, Arletta (Donald) O'Hearn, Elmarie Wendel, Alan (Joyce) Wendl, David Wendel, Mary (Jim) Thorn; and nephews widow: Dr. Jacelyn Shimek.

Ursula was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Gertrude (John) Wendel and Gabriella Shimek; one brother, Paul (Valborg) Shimek; and nephew: Dr. Maurice Shimek.
