Jeanette Gates, 87, of Cresco, IA passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, IA, and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will take place at Freemont Cemetery in rural Cresco, IA.

Jeanette Thelma Gates was born March 27, 1920 in Hesper Township in Winneshiek County, IA to John A. and Leona (Budahl) Anderson. She attended rural grammar schools in Hesper and Decorah Townships of Winneshiek County.

On November 10, 1937, Jeanette was united in marriage to Donald O. Gates in Decorah, Iowa. Jeanette spent the next 63 years in this union working side by side with her husband in farming endeavors and raising a family of four. They farmed in Fremont Township of Winneshiek County prior to moving to Cresco in retirement. They were members of the Fremont Lutheran Church near Kendallville, IA and the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA.

Jeanette is survived by her four children; Richard (Carol) Gates of rural Cresco, IA, David (Hazel) Gates of Lafayette, CO; Donna (Roger) Foote of Lime Springs, IA, Larry (Charlene) Gates of Lime Springs, IA, 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, several cousins, many nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Ilene Anderson of Harmony, MN, and Mary Ward of Waukon, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her three brothers, Adolph, Milo, and Duane, and her sister Edna Emery.
