Mrs. Carl Thayer, Native of County, Dies Here Friday
Mrs. Carl Thayer, 64, well-known Cresco woman, died Friday in the Cresco hospital following a lingering illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thayer were held Monday afternoon in the Cresco Methodist church, with the Rev. Robert Butler, pastor, in charge. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Bradley Funeral home, with burial in the Howard Center cemetery.
Mrs. Thayer, the former Mary Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Evans, was born April 29, 1890, near Bonair. She was graduated from the Cresco high school and the University of Minnesota. Following graduation, she was a teacher and principal in the high school at Halstead, Minnesota.
On June 14, 1916, she was married to Carl Thayer of Lime Springs. They lived on a farm near Lime Springs until 1947 when they moved to Cresco.
Mrs. Thayer was a member of the Bonair Methodist church and later of the First Methodist church in Cresco. Mrs. Thayer taught Sunday school classes and was active in the women’s organizations of both churches.
Surviving Mrs. Thayer are her husband, Carl H. Thayer, two children, Mrs. Charles Calhoun of Ames, and Keith E. Thayer of Iowa City, and three grandsons.
Also surviving are two brothers and five sisters, Herbert Evans of Lime Springs, Mrs. G. M. Cole of Minneapolis, Mrs. E. W. Goetch of Cedar Falls, Mrs. A. J. Anderson of Villard, Minnesota, Mrs. Rexford Krueger of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mrs. O. D. Houser of Ames, and John P. Evans of Lime Springs.
Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Goetsch of Cedar Falls, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Anderson of Villard, Mr. and Mrs. R. Krueger, Milwaukee, Dr. and Mrs. O. D. Houser of Ames, R. O. Cole of Minneapolis, Mrs.Leon Doelger of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Schultz of Nora Springs, and Paul Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Morgan of Spencer.
