Miss Barbara Bilek

Funeral services for Miss Barbara Bilek of Cresco were held here Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock from the Balik funeral home to the St. Wenceslaus Catholic church where a mass of requiem was offered by Rev. V. J. Hlubek, who also officiated at the burial in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were George, Earl and Raymond Riehle, William and Herman Soukup and Louis Ptacek.

Miss Bilek, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bilek was born on May 15, 1884 near Spillville where she grew to young womanhood. The past 25 years she was employed at St. Joseph’s Mercy hospital at Cresco. She made her home with the Sisters of Mercy, and it was there that she passed peacefully away early Wednesday morning, February 21, at the age of 55 years. Her death was the result of a heart ailment.

The deceased possessed a friendly disposition and will long be remembered by her associates for her many deeds of kindness which delighted in doing for others. She leaves to mourn her death, one sister, Mary Bilek of Spillville, and a number of relatives and friends. Her parents preceded her in death many years ago. Those from out of town who came to attend the funeral were: Sr. Mary Dominica, Sr. Mary Ann, Sr. Mary Marie Estelle and Sr. Mary Madeline, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ptacek and L. B. Fitzpatrick, all of Cresco, and Mr. and Mrs. William Soukup and sons Arnold and Herman of Ridgeway.
