Marjorie Hanlon, 82, services held
Funeral services for Marjorie Anna Hanlon of Cresco were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 11 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cresco, with interment in St. Agnes Cemetery at Plymouth Rock. Rev. Michael L. Tauke officiated. Conway Funeral Home in Cresco was in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie, 82, died Monday, September 7, 1998 at her home in Cresco, after a battle with cancer.
Marjorie Anna (Gossman) was born June 12, 1916 in Winneshiek County, the daughter of John and Anna (Knox) Gossman. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Agnes Catholic Church at Plymouth Rock. She attended rural school in Winneshiek County.
She married Byron John Hanlon on September 10, 1935 at St. Agnes Church. They farmed in Winneshiek County until retirement in 1977 when they moved to Cresco.
Marjorie was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Agnes parish at Plymouth Rock. She has been an active member of St. Joseph Parish in Cresco.
Survivors include six daughters: Jean Ann Connolly of Prescott, AZ, Janice Roeder of Byron, MN, Arlene Hengel of Rochester, MN, Diane Beelendorf of Green Bay, WI, Cathy Elliott of Decorah, and Mary Jean Smorstad of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother: Herb Gossman of Cresco; and one sister, Loretta Kneeskern of Rochester, MN.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Byron; one son, Thomas in infancy; her parents; and three sisters: Bernadine Stortz, Helen Gossman, and Florence Mathews.
