Services held for Adeline Halweg
Funeral services for Adeline Halweg of Decorah were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25 at Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating. Interment was in Decorah Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. Pallbearers were: Richard Aswegan Jr., Earl Hoppe, Gene Hoppe, Michael Koshatka, Wayne Koshatka, and Andrew Sharp. Fjelstul Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Adeline, 83, died Monday, October 22, 2001 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah following a lengthy illness.
Adeline Kathryn Halweg was born January 14, 1918 in Cresco, the youngest daughter of Art and Emma (Reiser) Hoppe. She was raised in rural Cresco and attended New Orleans #6 Country School.
On November 18, 1936 she married Henry Ernest Halweg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco.
Adeline worked as a housewife in Decorah. She was employed at Decorah Laundry and Dry Cleaners.Then she and Henry owned and operated the Maidrite. Then she worked at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital for 20 years as the head cook. Finally, Adeline worked at Aase Haugen Home in the laundry department for seven years retiring in 1990.
She has been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home since June 1996.
Adeline played an active role in the Decorah Lutheran Church. She participated in church circles and ladies aide. She had numerous hobbies including making quilts. She also enjoyed embroidering, baking, and her flower gardens.
She is survived by four children: Everett Halweg and Orvetta Aswegan, both of Decorah, Carol Hinton of Cedar Rapids, and Jo Ann Sharp of Decorah; 10 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Adeline was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 1975; one son Wayne in 1961; two grandchildren; her parents; and one brother: Kermit.
